This gallery contains a number of images of various Buses and Coaches seen at transport events, museums, or in regular service in the UK.
I'm a young at heart OAP with a liking for getting wet at heritage railway and bus events. I've been a rail and transport fan since I was a mere snotgobbler, and never really got over the ending of the steam era back in 1968, when those scumbags Marple and Beeching closed down my local railway line.

This gallery contains photographs of various Heritage, Mainline and Rail Charter operations, or to paraphrase the great Windsor Davies of Battery Sergeant Major (Shut up) Williams fame in his 'It Aint Half Hot Mum' role, "It's a blatant display of Puffer Trainery!"

Whenever I visit a place I always like to try and get a few shots of any local landmarks or interesting features, and you can now find my ever growing collection of them in this gallery. Most of these are located in the north of England, but I'm sure I'll eventually visit a few more distant places before too long.

I don't get to spend much time photographing aircraft these days, but as and when time permits I will hopefully add a few new ones here, plus some of my old galleries.

Occasionally I come across TV and film companies doing some filming for TV dramas, or 'outside broadcasts', this gallery contains a few of them. On my old Fotopic site I had a gallery of 'Aerial' images, that is Radio and TV Transmitter aerials and not images taken from an aeroplane. I haven't yet had the time to recreate this, but I will eventually re-upload them into a new collection within this Gallery, as they probably go together better than with any of the others.

When I was young people always used to say that the best jobs to have were either working in pubs or being an undertaker, because both would always be around, and both flourished whenever there was a recession. Well that may have been true 20 years ago, but for various reasons, such as the government's attempts to de-regulate the brewing industry, high prices, never ending austerity cuts to bail out the thieving Bankers, the smoking ban, a younger generation that shares so much of their lives on those infernal smartphones and Facecrook, and don't seem to want to speak to each other face to face anymore, the supermarkets and cheap booze shops paying far lower duty levels and having lower overheads, and breweries not caring too much about them, these once central parts of our communities are now closing at an alarming rate, and like churches, are rapidly becoming very scarce in some areas. Because of that I thought it was important to record as many of them as possible (churches too), otherwise there will be no trace of them at all in a generation or two from now if the closures continue at the current rate. There is obviously still some demand for them though as in places where they close we then see the new 'beer shops' or 'bars' opening in shopping areas, but with their limited capacities it remains to be seen whether they will survive and be here for the long haul.
It may seem a bit hypocritical that I even care about such things, especially as I have been almost tee-total for the past 40 years, though I do visit them occasionally for meals and social events etc. (and probably would do even more often if more of them catered better for us folks that don't consume much alchohol) but I do feel that they are an important part of most communities, and just try to imagine Coronation Street without the Rovers Return, or Eastenders without the Queen Vic. I will continue to do my bit by documenting their changing fortunes, but I really do hope that I'm not recording their end after several hundred years in many cases, which would be a sad loss for our already fast changing, and not always for the best, society.
For a really good explanation about why perfectly good pubs are getting snapped up by dodgy property developers just out to make a fast buck, I would strongly recommend reading this article in the Gruaniad: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/oct/13/the-death-and-life-of-a-great-british-pub
If you feel we should be doing more to save our pubs then you might like to this this online petition: https://www.longlivethelocal.pub/

It was difficult to decide what to call this gallery, 'wildlife gallery' didn't seem appropriate, especially as some of the creatures shown in here are anything but wild (though one or two of them do get a little angry from time to time), in the end I decided to settle on 'Fur and Feather', since that should cover the lot, birds, animals, wild and domestic.

When I'm not out at a railway or bus event somewhere I'm also very fond of hiking around our wonderful South Pennine hills, and this new gallery is where I have placed a few 'photo documentaries' of some of my walks. I was originally calling this gallery 'Alan's Rambles', but a few of my friends (and with friends like those who needs enemies) commented that 'Alan Rambles' would be a more accurate description (cheeky sods, but I can't really argue with them about that), so instead I decided to rename it as 'Windypics Walks'.

I do enjoy experimenting with 'Panorama' shots, mostly using the free and excellent Microsoft Image Composite Editor program (ICE), but because of the size of some of the images that are produced, it means that they don't really fit into the normal albums very well, as the images need to be opened right up to their maximum size, so creating a dedicated panorama album seemed like a good idea (and it might encourage to me to do a lot more of them now).
To view them at full size you'll need to click on the button that allows you to set whatever size to what you prefer, and this can be found on the toolbar, it looks like a square with 2 arrows on it (far left of toolbar!) Set this to 'original' to see the full sized image.
