An event I look forward to every year is the very popular 'Lancashire Weekend', which after seven years has now become a regular weekend celebrating 'Lancashire Day', which takes place on November 27th every year, and it is always an enjoyable one at that. This year I just attended on Day Two, and decided to have a ride to Bury on the DMU, where the reading of the Lancashire Proclamation and Morris Dancing was taking place. As per usual, the proclamation was read by the Westhoughton Town Crier, Mr.John Crook, and this was followed by performances by the legendary 'Britannia Coconutters of Bacup', the Horwich Prize Medal Morris Men, and Littleborough's famous 'Oakenhoof' dancers. Also in attendance were local dialect singer 'Sid Calderbank', and the 'Friends of Real Lancashire' and 'The Lancashire Society'. All in all a very enjoyable day, with lots of ale drunk (not by me I hasten to add), songs sung, and a good time had by all. It's great that this has now become a good focus for educating people about the traditions of the 'Real Lancashire'!
