Heim / Bus & Coach Gallery / Bus & Coach Events Gallery / Bus & Coach Events 2018 / Dewsbury Bus Museum Summer Spectacular - 12th of August 2018 [70]

After a fairly bleak summer of Bus Events, mainly thanks to that comic horror show known as Northern Rail (Fail), and it's abysmal and all too frequently cancelled privatised rail services, making travelling any distance a risky business for me. I decided I would risk making the trip east over the Pennines to the Dewsbury Bus Museum's annual 'Summer Spectacular' on Sunday 12th of August, which takes place at the Museum in Ravensthorpe and 'The Mill' retail outlet at Batley. I was a bit dubious as to whether my train would actually turn up, so I did have a 'plan B' just in case, but thankfully everything ran to time for a change and I was at least able to get to my destination this time. Just as well I wasn't going to any locations in Lancashire though, as I heard that over 80 services were cancelled, with some areas particularly hard hit.

The event itself was very good as per usual, though with a few changes this time, but best of all it was mostly dull and overcast, so at least I didn't have to roast to death in the kinds of heat that were making my life a misery just a month ago. The main changes to the layout this time was that the trader stalls were located at the front of the Mill Outlet, and the overflow car park, which was used for the bus display last year, was abandoned in favour of the more visible car park at the side of the Outlet (a good idea, as I completely missed noticing the upper car park on my first visit!). As per usual, there were regular shuttle services between Batley, Dewsbury and Ravensthorpe, and for a change this year, I took a ride on the mystery tour, which took us to the centre of Huddersfield on a lovely Leyland Tiger, and a chance for a few quick shots of service trains at Huddersfield Station. All in all a very enjoyable day out, which helped to cure my bus withdrawal symptoms, and now I'm more optimistic about my chances of making it to the Leeds Classic BusRun Day next weekend now.

My thanks to all the bus owners, and volunteers form the Dewsbury Bus Museum for yet another enjoyable day, and long may they continue. If you have never visited this event then it's well worth adding it to your list, as is the case with many of the other Dewsbury events.
