My first visit of August 2018 took place on Friday 3rd, but was only a short one, as I just happened to be in the area for other reasons. The Class 47 was on the diesel diagram and Witherslack Hall on the steam diagram, but I just concentrated on getting a few shots of the diesel arriving, departing and running round.

With August being the time of the 'Orange' Timetable on the midweek services, I decided to have a couple of short visits on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th of August, to get a shot of the DMU, which only runs on Wednesday's and Thursdays, and Class 47 47765 which ran on the Friday diagram.

Another visit on Wednesday 15th of August, mainly just to get a shot of the Class 105 DMU, but when I saw the mighty 'City of Wells' spamcan arrive with the five coaches of the service train plus the five coaches of the midweek Dining Train, and even better, decked out in its 'Golden Arrow' finery, I decided a ride to Heywood and back might be in order, after all, I've never had the opportunity to photograph it facing south from that location before. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this loco looks truly magnificent in its Golden Arrow get up. As if all that wasn't good enough, it rained as well, so almost the perfect day! :-)
