It was hard to believe that this was my first visit to a KWVR Steam Gala since 2012, as prior to that I was always a regular visitor to the railway, alas a mixture of health and other issues had severely limited my recent attempts to get there. Hopefully that is all in the past now, and I will be making many more trips there before the year is out, as I really do like my visits to the lovely Worth Valley and its enthusiast friendly railway.

The Spring Steam Gala looked good on paper, and proved to be even better in the flesh, and with visiting Britannia class locos 70013 'Oliver Cromwell', the West Somerset Railway's 7F '53808' and Ian Riley's Black 5 '44871' accompanying the home fleet locos of BR Standard 4MT '75878', MR 4F '43924', Hudswell Clark 1704 'Nunlow', USATC S160 No. 5820 'Big Jim', LNWR Coal tank '1054' and Taff Vale 2T No.85, there was definitely a lot to like with such a mouth watering line up on display.

This was a 3 day event, and although I usually prefer to attend on the Fridays, for various reasons this year I had to go on the busier Saturday, and busy it certainly was, with most of the trains pretty full all of the time. I started out at Oxenhope as per usual, and worked my way up to Keighley before again returning to my starting point, and had enjoyable visits to all of the stations except for Damems. Below is my photographic record of a day that started off wet and ended up that way as well, but as regular visitors to this site will know, that's just the way I like it!:-) I must say though that judging by the sheer amount of snow still on the hills between Hebden Bridge and Oxenhope, in spite of the temperature being around 12C, I was glad I didn't have to make that journey the previous weekend when the 'Beast from the East' was battering the area.

My thanks to all the staff and volunteers at the KWVR for yet another memorable event, and I'm already looking forward to the visit of 'The Royal Scot' and 50th anniversary events in June, and the Autumn Steam Galas.
