Thanks to the rail strikes that were taking place on most Saturdays during 2018 plus the chaos caused by the new timetables which didn't work, I wasn't able to do much travelling that year and didn't even get to the Ribble Steam Railway at Preston in West Lancashire once, even though it isn't too far away. Thankfully the situation was a lot better this year and I was able to get over there for their first event of the year the 'Spring Diesel Gala'. Locos in service were: Progress, NS663, D9539, D2595, Stanlow No.4 and the star of the show, the visiting Colas Rail Class 56 '56090'.

I was there bright and early mainly to catch the 'demonstration freight' which was due to be hauled by Progress and NS663, but sadly due to a derailment this had to be cancelled. At least the Class 56 got plenty of runs and was worth going for alone, and as per usual the Sun was shining most of the time, only once has it ever rained whilst I've been there, clearly the Sun always does shine on Preston Docks!:-)

An enjoyable day and a big thank you to all the staff and volunteers for putting on the event, and it was also great to see my good friend Mr Mollsmyre there as well, and great to see him back in action again, so do be sure to check out his video of the event at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNcdbd6aQh4&feature=em-uploademail
