Home / Heritage Gallery / Lancashire Day Events / Lancashire Weekend - November 2017 [65]

After missing the 2016 event due to health problems, I was pleased to be able to attend the ELR's Lancashire Weekend on both days this time. On Day One the 'Lancashire Day Proclamation' was read by Mr John Crook, the Town Crier from Westhoughton, and after this the dancing was again provided by the 'Wrigley Head Morris Men' and the 'Royal Preston Morris Dancers'.

For Day Two it was back to Bury again, and this the proclamation was read out by the Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire Mrs Sharman Rona Birtles JP, and ably supported with a poem by Westhoughton Town Crier Mr John Crook. After this the dancing commenced with the legendary 'Brittania Coconut Dancers of Bacup', the 'Horwich Prize Medal Morris Men', the 'Oakenhoof Cloggers' from Littleborough, and also new for this year, the The Southport Swords'. Also travelling on the trains and performing songs were local folk singers 'Sid Calderbank' and Mark Dowling.

If you would like to hear what it sounded like and see the action be sure to check out this wonderful video of Day Two from Mr Mollsmyre: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elRffX_05-4&feature=em-uploademail
