If there was one event I was determined not to miss this year it was going to be the annual 'Dewsbury Bus Museum Summer Spectacular', which takes place between the museum at Ravensthorpe and the Mill Outlet Shopping Centre in Batley. The main reason for that was because of what had happened the previous year, when transport problems caused a late arrival there, which then left me without time to sit down and read the event programme to see what was taking place, and then managing to go and miss the entire static bus display which was located up at the rear of the Mill Outlet. Well I wasn't going to make that mistake this year, though after my train had hit a trolley left near to the track when engineering works had just been completed that morning, I did wonder if I was going to end up arriving there very late yet again (why do Network Rail always insist on doing overnight engineering works at this busy time of year?).

Thankfully that didn't happen, and I went on to have a thoroughly pleasant day, and even stayed right to the end, which is not something I often do when being so reliant on trains and public transport, and with Sunday services not being very good. Having learned my lesson last year and making sure that I sat down and read the programme first this time, I was very glad to see that the local Arriva bus company were running a couple of trips through the bus wash at the Dewsbury Depot, which was an interesting experience and a good chance to see what their depot looked like. The friendly drivers on the bus also gave us a good description of how and when the buses are washed, which is the sort of stuff us anoraks are very interested in.

This really is an excellent event, and whether you just like to ride on many of the services, just look at the buses and take photos, browse the stalls or visit the museum or the Mill Outlet, there is no shortage of things to do or see. I thoroughly enjoyed it and health and clashing events permitting, will hopefully be back again for next year's event, which will take place on Sunday 12th of August 2018. My thanks to all the staff, volunteers and bus drivers and owners for making this such a grand day out.
