I managed to have an hour at the final day of the ELR's annual '1940s Weekend', which featured events at the various stations along the line. I only attended the ones at Rawtenstall Stations, which was again renamed 'Rossendorf' for the events. As well as various displays from the re-enactors and a German Field Hospital, plus songs and entertainment from the lovely 'Hotsie Totsies', there were 3 steam locos in action, including the Crab, the Spam Can and visiting GWR loco 'Witherslack Hall'.

Normally one of the highlights of the weekend is a battle re-enactment, but due to the awful events at nearby Manchester just a week ago, the railway decided that it wouldn't be appropriate to have a lot of shooting and explosions going off, and I certainly couldn't argue with them for making that decision as these events can get a bit loud. It was also good to see all of the locos carrying wreaths in memory of the victims of the Manchester bombing. In spite of the lack of any battle re-enactments I still thoroughly enjoyed my short time there, and as usual had a great time photographing the re-enactors, so a big thanks to them all for giving up their time and coming along and do this.
